The Cornell Steel Bands perform traditional music from Trinidad for steel pans, including
calypso and soca, as well as repertoire expanding the boundaries of the instruments.  The
group consists of the standard steel orchestra, cut and hammered from 55-gallon oil drums,
and a full "engine room" consisting of drumset, congas, "irons" (brake drums), and other
percussion instruments.

One or more sections will form in 2007-8, depending on demand and ability.  The groups
rehearse weekly, and perform as ready throughout the semester.

Students should register for MUSIC 433/434.  Prior musical experience is necessary, though
not limited to percussion,  and participants must audition.
Audition information is available here.
