Students seeking to join the Cornell Percussion Ensemble, steel bands, or take private
lessons need to pass an audition for admittance.

The audition schedule for fall 2007 is as follows:

          Percussion Ensemble, Orchestra, Wind Ensemble
          Tuesday, August 21, 7-10 p.m.
          Lincoln Hall B20

Audition materials for snare drum, timpani, and keyboard percussion are found here.

          Cornell Steel Bands
          Wednesday, August 22, 2-5 p.m.
          Thursday, August 23, 2-5 p.m.
          Lincoln Hall B23

There will be a lead pan and a set of double seconds available for the audition.
Members may bring a prepared excerpt for these pans if desired, but the
audition wil consist primarily of exercises dealing with rhythms, chord progressions,
sight-reading, and learning a melody by rote.

          Private Instruction
          Friday, August 24, 2-5 p.m.
          Lincoln Hall B23

Students interested in orchestral percussion (snare, keyboard, timpani) must bring
prepared solos or excerpts for the instruments they wish to study.
Drumset players will be asked to demonstrate different styles of grooves and solos.
Other improvisers (hand drummers, jazz vibraphonists, steel pan, others) must
demonstrate their skills.

Students taking lessons on orchestral instruments and auditioning for CUPE need not
audition a second time on Friday.  Other percussionists should re-audition on Friday if
taking a different instrument from that of the previous audition - for example, a student
taking the steel band audition needs to re-audition to take drumset lessons.

To schedule an audition for lessons or any ensemble, or for more information,
please contact Tim Feeney, director of percussion.
