Welcome to the Cornell University Percussion Department website!

Interested in performance? Here, you may find out more about our Western and non-Western
percussion ensembles.  Our members study traditional and experimental compositions for percussion
instruments through the Cornell University Percussion Ensemble, perform new and old music from the
Caribbean and elsewhere within the CU steel bands, and learn to drum, sing, and dance communal
music from West Africa as members of the World Drum and Dance Ensemble.  We also collaborate
frequently with Cornell performing ensembles, including the CU orchestras, wind ensembles, jazz
bands, gamelan, and others in which you may be interested.

Looking to improve your individual playing, or to pick up a new instrument?  We also offer private courses
of study, for-credit, in any area of percussive interest.  Rock, jazz, electronic music, orchestral instruments,
hand drumming...we are limited only by your imagination.

Coming back? Looking to get in touch with old friends? Reconnect via our alumni page.

Specific information may be found under each group's heading - audition information and samples
or course materials may be found together under separate links.

We work in a supportive environment emphasizing mutual respect, collaboration, and trust.  One of the
great gifts of playing percussive music is the sense of community that arises from the experience.
The friendships and bonds we make with others through music can be some of the strongest and most
vivid of our lives, and at Cornell we make sure to foster these relationships.

We're all in this music together - I'm looking forward to learning along with you as we go!

Sincerely,

Tim Feeney
Director of Percussion
